Fabrication and Performance Evaluation of a Sorghum (Sorghum Bicolor L. Moench) Threshing Machine

Abstract-Bohol Island State University-Bilar Campus is currently on the production research stage of sorghum which requires threshing for yield analysis. To date, threshing is done manually by beating using bottles which is tedious, and labor intensive. To improve sorghum threshing, a thresher was fabricated and evaluated. The performance evaluation was based on threshing capacity, efficiency, recovery, grain purity and power consumption. The factors of evaluation were the pulley diameter at the threshing assembly and the roller clearance. Based on the result of the evaluation, the performance of the machine has satisfactory threshing capacity (~53kg/hr), efficiency (99%), recovery (95%), and grain purity (88%). The study concluded that combination of the pulley diameters at the threshing assembly and the roller clearances could not affect the threshing recovery and efficiency.
